Rescue Scuba Diver Certification

This course trains divers in the knowledge and skills needed to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies. Included are: assists, transports, surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat- and shore-based skin and scuba divers.

Prerequisites: Minimum age of 15 years by the water phase of the course.  Certification as a NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver or the equivalent is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR & First Aid and Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries (EO2) certification are not offered as part of the course, a current equivalent certification is required.

The latest techniques are presented for assisting and transporting divers and performing surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and SCUBA Divers.

Advanced SCUBA Rescue Diver training moves the diver along the pathway to becoming a NAUI Leader as a Skin Diving Instructor, Assistant Instructor, Divemaster, or Instructor. Divers Alert Network’s Diving First Aid for Professionals is presented in this course. The course is comprised of information including emergency oxygen for SCUBA diving injuries, neurological assessment, first aid for hazardous marine life injuries and CPR plus bloodborne pathogens. 

Graduates are considered competent to perform assists and rescues in open water provided the diving site and diving situations approximate those of the course. Additionally, graduates may use this certification to meet the prerequisite for the NAUI Training Assistant specialty course, NAUI leadership courses and NAUI Instructor course.
